Welcome to the inaugural post of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce Blog. The Chamber blog has been created to serve as a great opportunity for our members to learn, teach, and, most importantly, get more from their Chamber membership.
For my first time blogging—not only on the Chamber blog, but on any blog—I have a few stories to tell and will do so from time to time. I’m always open to your feedback and interaction.

The central core mission of this Chamber is to promote Arlington’s business community. As stated in our mission, we strive “to strengthen businesses and the economic environment for those who work, live and do business in Arlington.” It is through our engagement with our members and the opportunities we provide them that we achieve this mission.
Perhaps the biggest opportunity of the year to promote the Arlington business community is coming up on Tuesday, May 21st. For 26 years, the Chamber has recognized the outstanding among us by bestowing itsArlington Best Business Awards to those who are so judged by their peers. We owe it to ourselves to be there to honor the winners and to learn something from those who are so well thought of.
Another way to be involved with the Arlington Best Business Awards beyond attending the event is to nominate a business. If you have ever attended a Chamber SMART Start, you have learned several tips to better practice your Chamber membership. One of those items goes beyond a tip - it is a life lesson:Givers get. Nominating a client for the Arlington Best Business Awards is a great way to show your appreciation for their business while demonstrating your commitment to the Arlington business community.
Here’s how in, three easy and quick steps, you can put this principle to work while distinguishing yourself from the herd—an increasingly difficult feat in today’s highly competitive world:
- Think of an exceptional business client of yours that is a member of the Arlington Chamber (search our business directory or email us to confirm membership). Think of more than one company, if you want. Nominations for the Best Business Awards are due by May 1.
- Email the name of the company, the name of your contact person, and their contact info to[email protected].
- Write to your contact person (people) and tell them what you have done. Example: “I was honored today to submit [Their Business]’s name to the Arlington Chamber of Commerce for consideration as an Arlington Best Business. We think highly of the work you do and very much appreciate you being such a great customer of [Your Business].” Stamp and mail, or hit “send.”
Done! No long application forms; no internet research; no taking pictures; no interviews; no testimonials. This is one of the easiest ways on earth to let them know you care.
The Chamber thinks all of its members are great, and we appreciate the collective support of Arlington’s best businesses. Thanks!
