I am closing in on my sixth week at the Arlington Chamber of Commerce, working full-time since my Senior Experience commenced on May 22. So far, I’ve enjoyed my time here at the Chamber and being able to have had the privilege of waking up every morning Monday-Thursday to work from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. It has been great to experience what life is like as a part of the workforce. The adjustment of going from being a part-time intern to a full-time intern has been rather smooth than complicated. I’ve still manage to be just as punctual and as focused as I can possibly be throughout my day at the Chamber of Commerce, as well as ask for help when I need it. By Lauren Cates, LMT, Executive Director, Healwell There aren’t many people who don’t love massage. Massage has been synonymous with luxury and pampering for eons. It has come to be known as the ultimate self-indulgence. But this has also been its downfall. When something feels luxurious, it’s easy for us to mistake it for a luxury. A calm, well-treated body with as little pain and anxiety as possible is not a luxury. It’s essential to healing, even if that healing happens on the way to dying. Massage therapy and basic human touch are largely undervalued in healthcare today. The skill, compassion, and commitment required to bring massage therapy into the hospital in a fully integrated and meaningful way is unique and is not afforded by the level of training offered to most massage therapists in massage school. When you're overwhelmed with all the details of launching a startup, it's easy to convince yourself that you can figure out the bookkeeping later. But "later" might be too late to save your business. Before you launch, it's important to determine how you'll track your company's financial health on a monthly basis. Regular reports can not only alert you to potential financial problems, but also help you chart the most direct course to growth and profitability. |
The mission of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce is to strengthen businesses and the economic environment for those who work, live and do business in Arlington.
