If you are in the non-profit or accounting space, you probably already know that the financial reporting requirements are about to change for non-profits. The question is, are you ready? When the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) issued ASU 2016-14 they allowed about two years to prepare for the changes before requiring non-profits to adopt it. The time is upon us now to implement these changes so if you haven’t been paying attention, here is what you need to know.

Behind the Scenes of Arlington’s Best Night Out: Why you’ll want to contribute and attend!11/21/2018 By Rhoda Wheeler, Andors Real Estate Group What are you doing this coming Saturday, January 26? If you don’t have the Arlington Business Gala on your calendar, add it now! The Gala, known as “Arlington’s Best Night Out,” is a must-attend for all Chamber members and for anyone doing business in Arlington. Held at The Ritz-Carlton in Pentagon City, the Gala is the perfect way to kick off the coming year of terrific success and growth for the Arlington business community. By Jennifer Paquette Galloway, Wolcott Hill Group ‘Tis the season for spreading good cheer … but it is also the Giving Season! Roughly 40% of all donations received by nonprofits each year are given in the month of December, which means approximately $164 billion will be donated in the next month to nonprofits across the country. However, fewer than half of households in America give to charity and according to Philanthropy Trust, only 25% of Americans volunteer their time and talents. Finally, according to Giving USA’s 2018 report (on 2017 giving), fewer than 6% of all corporations give to nonprofits (eekk!). By John Welsh, Vice President, Multifamily Group, AHC Inc. Like bridges and roads, affordable housing is an investment in a community’s infrastructure. Along with numerous social benefits, housing affordability supports diverse jobs and wage levels, and it attracts and retains workers – all critical to a community’s long-term economic success. Housing affordability also contributes to a community’s quality of life – increasingly important to businesses. Many Virginians consider housing affordability a positive community benefit. According to a 2017 Campaign for Housing and Civic Engagement poll, 82% of Virginia voters believe that people who work in their community should be able to live in their community, and 56% connect the availability of housing options with the economic success of their community. |
The mission of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce is to strengthen businesses and the economic environment for those who work, live and do business in Arlington.
