Here at the Chamber, we work hard to provide valuable opportunities and events to help our members and the business community grow and thrive. With this goal in mind, we began work on a live podcast series with ARLnow, called Secrets to Success, which features various Arlington business titans who share personal insight and their path to success in the business world. Each episode is recorded before a live audience and later posted online. During the planning process, a live event like this seemed like a win for everyone involved – for young and emerging professionals looking to learn the ropes, as well as more established business leaders seeking to build their networks.
We couldn’t have been more right.

For the launch of this exciting new series, we were joined by Pinkie Dent Mayfield, who serves as Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Special Liaison to the Chairman at Graham Holdings Company. It’s no secret: Pinkie is an Arlington business powerhouse. As a young professional, I am always eager to learn best practices and new tips, and I deeply value any guidance that successful, established professionals, like Pinkie, have to offer. An Oakland, California native, Pinkie discussed her journey, offered words of wisdom about leadership, and provided a candid account of trying to balance work and family. The advice Pinkie gave on advancing one’s career, handling situations in the workplace, and utilizing resources to build one’s network was inspiring and remarkably helpful – and not just for young professionals, but for the everyone in the room, regardless of age or business experience.
What separates Secrets to Success from other podcasts is that audience members are present for the discussion. If you’re wondering why you should attend when you can listen online, anyone who attended the last event will tell you that watching the interview live is entirely more personal and engaging. Live audience members also have the chance to ask our featured guest questions during a special Q&A portion of the podcast, which is not broadcast online. Not mention, attendees enjoy a special networking reception with food and beverages – having Ruth’s Chris Steak House at our first event was definitely a plus!
