This past May, I found myself feeling slightly defeated searching for a job as a recent graduate in the midst of a global pandemic. If you had asked me what I would be doing post-graduation six months prior, I would have most certainly given you a concrete answer along the lines of “working in a new job at an office full time”. Although I couldn’t quite see an end in sight, resiliency has always been one of the strongest ingredients in my personality. Right as I was about to pivot my search to job titles I didn’t quite love, I came across the Arlington Chamber of Commerce. In a sort of cliché, “stars aligning” moment, I knew I found the perfect balance of my passions in a challenging and fun environment.

Right as I was about to pivot my search to job titles I didn’t quite love, I came across the Arlington Chamber of Commerce. In a sort of cliché, “stars aligning” moment, I knew I found the perfect balance of my passions in a challenging and fun environment.
At the end of June, I started at the Chamber as the Communications Coordinator. I was drawn to the Chamber because of my past experiences working in the community of Arlington, but I quickly realized that its overall goals and impact go far beyond the county’s physical boundaries. A perfect example of this is the way that the Chamber has continued to provide top-notch service and opportunities to its members during this COVID-19 pandemic. In a time where it feels like the world has shut its doors, the Chamber has truly stepped up to the plate and adapted to the new normal. It may appear difficult to learn a new position remotely, but the team has proven that no obstacle is impossible to overcome. My responsibilities vary from developing and maintaining the Chamber’s overall image and messaging, while also providing promotional tools for our member’s success. Although I have not had the opportunity to interact with members in person, I have already experienced how unique, diverse, and impactful they are.
On a personal note, I wanted to share a bit about my background. I was born in Southern Maryland, raised in Northern Virginia, and educated in Washington, D.C. After an incredible four years at American University studying public relations and strategic communication, I couldn’t be more excited to expand my career in the “DMV” with a focus on one of its most prestigious counties. Although I currently live in Reston, the Chamber has made me feel like a true member of the Arlington community. As we all continue to move forward and adapt to the new normal, I look forward to investing myself in both Chamber and Arlington culture.
