COUNTY BOARD BUDGET AND
TAX RATE HEARINGS
The
Arlington County Board is in the middle of its budget process and now is the time for Chamber members to
express their opinions to our elected officials. The new County Budget takes effect on July 1,
2010, but will be adopted at the April 24, 2010 meeting of the County Board.
The
Acting County Manager proposed a budget that includes an increase in the tax
rate to 94.2 cents per $100 of assessed value. This is an increase of 6.7 cents from the
current rate of 87.5 cents. The County
Board advertised a tax rate of 96.5 cents per $100 of assessed value. While there is significantly more involved in
the proposed budget than just the tax rate, the rate advertised by the County
Board represents an increase of over 10% from the current rate. Detailed information on the proposed budget

The
County Board will be holding public hearings on the budget on Tuesday, March
23, and Wednesday, March 24,at 7:00 p.m. in the County Board Hearing
Room on the 3rd Floor of 2100 Clarendon Boulevard. The tax rate
hearing will be held on Thursday, March, 25, also starting at 7:00p.m.rd

We
strongly encourage Chamber members to participate in this process and make your
opinions known. Chamber members
certainly have extensive experience in developing budgets in difficult
financial times and undoubtedly have valuable insight to share with the members
of the County Board. In addition, you
can be sure that advocates of all types of programs covered by the County
budget will be present to make their opinions known. Showing up and participating does matter!
